    Chloƫ Chapdelaine

    Book Report
    The Final Four
    BY: Paul Volponi
I really like this book because it is exciting and it gets the suspense. The quote from the book really tied in well and were meaningful it started from the beginning of the chapter. I would recommend this book to everyone. This book shows you how the 4 key players of the teams succeeded. While I was reading this I felt like I was on the actual game. It was really intense and they all played so hard and they really wanted to be the best.
The final four is a story about four players of different backgrounds who all meet on the court. The story talks about all four players and their journeys to the game. The main characters in the story are Malcolm McBride and Michael Jordan of Michigan state and Roko Bacic and Crispin Rice of Troy Trojans University. They all have 1 thing in common, the love of basketball and the will to win the NCAA championship. Each character had a challenge that they had to face. Malcolm McBride had a sister who was shot and killed outside his apartment in Detroit. Michael Jordan had to face all the pressure that people had put on him because he was named after the greatest basketball all of time( Michael Jeffrey Jordan the greatest basketball in the NBA for now). Roko Bacic had to overcome his life in a war in Croatia and the murder of his very close uncle who taught him to play basketball. Crispin Rice had to overcome his drama with his girlfriend and the girl of his dream. They had to overcome the hardship throughout the story as the game was going.

    Love, Stargirl
    Jerry Spinelli

Star girl is a 16 year old filled with wonder and joy. She is not like most 16 year olds obsessed with hair and makeup, she is nothing but herself. She wears long colorful skirts with bright tops and has a sunflower bag that she takes everywhere. She has a rat named cinnamon who is the friendliest rat you will ever meet. Her personality is outgoing and friendly. She does not care what you think of her. She changed her name 3 times; her first name was Susan this was the name her parents gave her, then she felt the that name wore out and she was no longer Susan so she changes it to Pocket Mouse, then another and another till she found herself at Stargirl. This book is inspirational because of Stargirl. She leaves her spare change on sidewalks for others to find, she meditates, she is just a great person trying to find herself. And this is mainly what the book is about she had herself all figured out till she moved away from town and now she doesn’t know who she is what she wants. I would recommend this book because it is like no other book I have read. It is completely different with the story line and characters.

    Warm Bodies
    Written by: Isaac Marion

Warm Bodies is a book about a lovable zombie named R, who is not your average zombie. One day while hunting with a group of zombies, R finds and falls in love with a girl named Julie. R takes Julie back to the airport where the zombies “live”, which does create some problems because Julie is a human living with a group of flesh eating zombies. While there Julie and R go on many adventures and end up saving mankind.
I would recommend this book to someone that is looking for a good easy read. If you want a classic zombie horror book this is not for you. This book is an adventure, romantic, and a funny book. I would recommend this book to teenagers and adults because there is some curse words in it. All in all I think this is a great book because it is well written and well thought out, the author put a lot of detail and creativity into this book. I give this book five out of five rating.

This is a great book for readers who like adventures! There are tons of exciting moments that make you want to keep reading. This is the kind of book that you don’t want to put down; you just want to keep reading! Alice, the main character, falls into a different world. This new world she is in has Gryphons, Mock Turtles, Cheshire Cats, and many more fabulous creatures! There is also a queen that loves to play croquet. But if you keep her waiting her guards will take you away right soon after she screams “Off with her head” or “Off with his head”. This is definitely a book I would recommend to anyone who likes adventures, fairytales, or magical creatures. The language is easy to understand and it describes what is happening very well. It for sure creates a picture in your mind!

  6. Perfect By Ellen Hopkins
Perfect is a book about striving to be perfect in every way possible. In the book there are multiple different teens that each has their own struggles. From eating disorders, over doses and their own sexuality these five teens are very different but also indifferent at the same time. Their paths each cross at some point in the book and their lives are all greatly changed. The teens are all striving to be perfect, or their idea of perfect, and because they are trying to be that they all end up drastically changing. They get so caught up in what they think others will think of them that they lose sight of what is really important to them. Near the end they all realize that they are trying to fit society’s idea of perfection and they stop trying to be something they aren’t and try to find who they really are again. The first page of the book is what got me hooked. “HOW do you define a word without concrete meaning? To each his own, the saying goes, so WHY push to attain an ideal state of being that no two random people will agree is WHERE you want to be? Faultless. Finished. Incomparable. People can never be these, and anyway, WHEN did creating a flawless facade become a more vital goal than learning to love the person WHO lives inside your skin? The outside belongs to others. Only you should decide for you -WHAT is perfect” I would definitely recommend this book to others.

    The Deadly Sister
    By Eliot Schrefer

Book report written by Alicia Crawford

The Deadly Sister is a dark, twisted story about love, drugs, heartbreak, and what happens when you mix it with the most popular boy at school. It is a story about how a girl named Maya meets a boy named Jefferson Andrews, school jock, sweetheart, and scholar. As Maya falls in love with Jefferson, he starts to show his dark side. Abby, Maya’s sister, is determined to stop Maya from falling for him, before she falls too hard and is heartbroken like the rest. But it is too late. Because one day Abby finds Jefferson. Dead. She then goes on a horrific journey, seeking out the real killer of Jefferson Andrews, as she tries to unfold the truth. But as everything leads back to one person, she tries to prove the facts wrong. It might get tricky though, if the number 1 suspect is very close to her heart. Her sister.

  9. Just Listen
    By Sarah Dessen
Just Listen is a book about a teenage girl, Annabel, who just can’t seem to live the life she wants. In this novel, Annabel loses two of her very good friends by making mistakes that put her in a bad place, and by people telling lies about her. Also, her older sister Whitney has developed an eating disorder which is stressing her whole family out. Now Annabel has isolated herself from everyone at school and is using silence to get through life. After spending lunch hour after lunch hour sitting alone in the cafeteria, she meets a boy named Owen. Owen is an interesting person to Annabel; he is obsessed with music and is determined to always tell the truth. As time goes on, Owen and Annabel become very close friends, but it seems a romance might spark up between them.
I really liked this book, and would recommend it for people who like teenage, romantic novels. It is also written very well which makes it easy for me to read and enjoy.

  11. Tiger Threat
    By Sigmund Brouwer
The book Tiger Threat is a book is a book about a hockey player named Ray Hockaday who lives in the city of Medicine Hat. He also plays for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the western hockey league. He is a veteran player and is assigned to take care of a new Russian player named Vladislav Miminich. The new Russian is Ray’s roommate and Ray has to take care of him because he doesn’t speak English. Vlad has a secret that nobody knows until Ray took him to the dentist to get his tooth pulled. There was something in the tooth that was worth more than Ray and Vlad’s life. This secret could get Ray and his hockey team killed…
If you like hockey and mysteries then you will probably like this book. It is short and won’t take you long to read. That is why I choose this book. And also because it is based in Medicine Hat and has one of my favorite WHL hockey teams.

  12. Beautiful Creatures
By Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Beautiful Creatures is about a boy named Ethan Wate who has lived in the small town of Gaitlin all of his life. All Ethan wants is to get through high school so he can finally leave his small country town. That is however, until he meets Lena Duchannes. Lena is the new girl in Gaitlin and the niece of Macon Ravenwood who has not been seen out of his house for years and years. Just being his niece immediately makes Lena considered weird to everyone at her new high school. Everyone that is, besides Ethan. You see Ethan has been having these strange dreams for weeks where he tries to save a girl who looks just like Lena. Ethan tries to ignore this similarity for a while not wanting to change the way people think of him, but eventually he realizes that Lena is the one in his dreams and he wants to get to know her. When Ethan tries to befriend Lena however, she is not very welcoming because there are things that Ethan doesn’t know about her. However eventually she decides to let him in on her secret. You see Lena is a Castor (kind of like a witch or wizard) and on her sixteenth birthday she will either be claimed for the light or dark side of magic for the rest of her life. Unfortunately Lena is sure she is going dark. So the rest of the book is about Lena and Ethan falling in love, while at the same time trying to find a way they could be together for longer and a way of keeping Lena light. Along the way Ethan also discovers that his little town of Gaitlin is not what he thought, because he is not the only on in Gaitlin who knows about castors. I love this book because it is a beautiful love story that somehow has managed to bring in the world of magic and fantasy. The book was not a difficult read in terms of vocabulary for me, but the book is about five hundred pages long. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy as well as a hopeless love story combined into one.

    Viral
    By: Bethany Wakeling

Viral is a great book written by Alex Van Tol, if you’re looking for an interesting book then this is the one for you. I could never put this book down, through the whole book it was very good but the ending was disappointing. The book is about a boy named Mike, he has fallen for his best friend, Lindsay. And he’s pretty sure she feels the same way, until a simple misunderstanding destroys Lindsay’s trust. After a while Lindsay changes, ends up in a compromising situation. Someone is filming the whole thing, and the footage goes viral. Mike has to help Lindsay in her time of greatest need. I highly recommend this book is you’re into cliffhangers and interesting things happening.

  15. Odd Hours by Dean Koontz – Book Report

In this novel, our protagonist Odd travels to a new town which turns out to be corrupt. A young, mysteriously cryptic woman named Anastasia tells Odd what he needs to do to save her, and her unborn child, as well as the entire town. As we follow Odd through this adventure, he is accompanied by the spirit of Frank Sinatra, as well as a ghost German Shepard named Boo, and eventually a real dog named Raphael who befriends Odd in a chase. I chose to read this book not only because it’s a good series, but because the book held my interest from cover to back. It’s funny, adventurous, clever and very well written. I would recommend this book, and the rest of the series, to anyone who asked. If I had to rate it from one to ten, this series would be an eleven.

    The Keeper
    Lexie Macgregor
The Keeper, by Mal Peet, is a story about a young man named El Gato. He is an award winning goal tender who is being interviewed by Paul Faustino, who is a veteran soccer reporter. El Gato tells Faustino about how he became a goaltender, and the struggles that he went through to become great. He tells the reporter all about his past, and about the goalkeeper who found him in a forest one day and slowly taught him each day how to become one of the best goaltenders in the world.
I enjoy what I have read of this book so far, because I love soccer. I like to read about things I can relate to. So if people like to read books about sports and the training that people go through to become great, then I recommend this book as a really good one.

  17. 13 Reasons Why, Jay Asher

If you’re looking for a sad but entertaining book, then 13 Reasons Why is the book for you. This book follows the life of a boy named Clay, after he has been given some tapes that contain the reasons why his crush, Hannah committed suicide. They have only been handed out to the people that may have contributed to her death. And apparently he is one of the reasons. Throughout the book you uncover both Hannah and Clay’s life; each chapter makes it harder and harder for you to put the book down! I usually don’t really get into a book that much, so if you don’t like reading, this book could change your mind. The wasn’t a page in this book where I was bored, or even a chapter. I highly recommend this book to girls even though there is a male protagonist. I can freely say this was probably the best book I have ever read!

    The Fault in Our Stars
    By John Green
    Report by Brooklyn Schnor
The book The Fault in Our Stars was a great read and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good book.
The story is about a young cancer patient named Hazel Grace who has a passion for reading and clever humor. When she meets a charming boy who also has cancer named Augustus Waters, they decide to live life to the fullest. A shared love of a certain book called An Imperial Affliction takes them on an exciting, yet tragic adventure.
I would recommend this story because the mood of the book is very light and humorous despite the dark subject, and it keeps you interested through the entire story. The characters are especially my favorite part of the book because they’re hilarious, loveable, and you sympathize with them. Another thing that makes this a good read is the fact that it is such a painfully realistic story with no sugar-coating or cheesiness. Everything is real and you feel like you could just jump right into the story with them.

  19. Yummy: The Last Days of a Southside Shorty
    By Greg Neri
    Levi
This book is based on a true story; it’s about an eleven year old boy named Robert “Yummy” Sandifer from Roseland, Chicago who joined a gang called The Black Disciples and made it on the cover for Time magazine in September 1994. Another kid named Roger tells you about how he saw “Yummy.” Roger says sometimes Yummy was the worst bully at his school, but sometimes he would share candy with Yummy and he would be nice. When “Yummy” kills a young girl he’s on the run from the cops but a few days later “Yummy” was found dead killed by his own gang.
I recommend this book because it shows what gangs are like and it shows that a young kid can be a thief, bully and a murderer. But also can be a normal nice kid.
