Shiver by Tianna Haskell

Review on Shiver
By: Tianna Haskell

The book I’ve been reading in my computer class is called Shiver it was written by Maggie Stiefvater. This book is about a young girl in high school named Grace; the town she lives in has a wolf problem. The wolves in this town have attacked more than one person; Grace being one of them. Despite her attack Grace is still drawn to the wolves. There’s something about the wolves that she is interested by. When the wolves start to become endangered Grace does everything in her will to try and save them. No one in the town will believe her when she says the wolves aren’t dangerous. While doing this she is losing the people who are closest to her.
I enjoyed reading this book because the story line of this book is interesting and very different from other books. When I was reading this book it felt as if I was in the same place as Grace. It takes you into a whole other world. Maggie Steifvater did an excellent job in describing how the different characters felt and how the setting was. Overall this was a really great book to read.

Invisible Armies by Mitch C.

Invisible Armies-Book Review
I am doing my book report on a book called Invisible Armies by Jon Evans. Jon Evans is a fantastic Canadian author that grew up in Waterloo, Ontario. I really liked this book for a number of reasons, it had thrill after thrill after thrill. This book took me from India to England and even the Pacific Ocean! You would think something would happen, and then the exact opposite would happen; it was incredible! This book was based on a woman named Daniele Leaf, who is living in India and is asked to perform a very simple task for a friend, but of course it doesn’t go as planned and she is thrown into a dark, concrete cell in the middle of nowhere. But the “police” that locked her up weren’t exactly “legit” so to speak. She goes on an incredible journey with a close knit group of friends fighting for so called “humanitarian reasons.” But this group is special; they don’t exactly go by the book. But while going along for this journey of fighting for the betterment of the world they uncover something that was never imagined to be possible. This book also has details of hacking into major systems, but it’s not like it is confusing. They go through it and explain every detail and it’s almost like you are sitting in the room with them! But the one person you would think was in it for absolutely all the right reasons, and 100% committed turns out to be a big cause of all of the mess they got into in the first place. This book was great and I highly recommend it.

This book is great; there is a lot of emotion and drama that goes on. It is so intriguing; there were a lot of points in the book where I just couldn’t put it down! It’s telling a story on four different people’s lives, all teenagers that are soon heading off to college, and each has one thing that is a major changing situation in their lives. With them discovering who they really are, how to move on, follow their dreams and realizing nobody is perfect. I love how throughout the book especially at the end she ties it together with the last story, Impulse! Also the way she writes her books are very interesting, and different from every other book I’ve read, it’s like reading in verse. I would recommend this book to teenagers and young adults, since it is has drug usage, alcohol, and language.

A Monster Calls by ?

A Monster Calls.

The book I have chosen to read was A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. I say it was one of the most fascinating books I have ever read. This book was about a boy named Connor, he was a nice kid but he was always bullied at school. Things at home weren’t the best either Connor’s mom was sick very sick she would always be tired from treatments. Conner would have nightmares that he couldn’t figure out what they were about. The only thing Connor knows is someone calling his name for help. Every night Connor would wake up and check his clock, the clock read 12:07pm. Every night at 12:07 a monster came to talk to Connor.

The monster would tell him stories; strange stories about a queen can be both a good witch and a bad witch, a prince being a murderer and a savior, and more. The whole story is mostly about Connor trying to save his mom from dying. So Connor try’s to figure out what the monsters stories mean. All Connor has to do is tell the truth but it’s too hard for him to say. Connor enters his nightmare to try and save his mom. When Connor’s in his nightmare he tries to save his mom but the nightmare is to strong it yanks his mom downwards Connor cannot hold on to her so she slips his grip. The monster says you let her go why? Connor said that he couldn’t hold on anymore. Once Connor tells the truth he will be returned to earth but if he doesn’t tell the truth he will be stuck in his nightmare forever.

The Book of Awesome by ?

Book Review: THE BOOK OF AWESOME!
Neil Pasricha
The Book Of Awesome is a different kind of book, unlike most others! It has different stories about different things in your daily life! It can help you do different things like peel an orange in one shot or what to do if you’re offered fries at a restaurant. The book gives you advice on unusual things that can happen in your life, or what to do in different situations. I like this book a lot because it’s different, not something you would normally read or would be a normal book. The author took this book to a different level; I think a lot of people would like it. It’s funny and entertaining some days I don’t want to put the book down, and I don’t usually like books! Some stories are… Finding money in your old coat pocket, mastering the art of the all-you-can-eat buffet, Snow days, Building an amazing couch-cushion fort, eating a free sample of something you have no intention of buying, and a whole lot more. There are about 1000 stories in this book about all different things and different lengths. I would recommend this book to anyone!!
AWESOME!!!

The Hunger Games by ?

The Hunger Games.
The Hunger Games is a very intriguing book. I could not put it down, The Hunger Games is written by Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games is a trilogy, the other two books are called Catching Fire and Mockingjay. The Hunger Games is about a young girl names Katniss Everdeen who is chosen to fight in The Hunger Games at age 16, she is chosen to fight in the games with a boy named Peeta Mellark who is also 16. The Hunger Games is a fight to the death in an arena with 24 tributes between the ages 12 to 18. I think The Hunger Games was honestly one of the best books I’ve ever read. I could not put it down. They made a movie based on the book and I think it’s pretty good. They stayed very close to the book unlike some movies that go completely on their own and ruin it. I think The Hunger Games is a book all age groups above 10 would enjoy reading. The Hunger Games has everything from action and drama to a teenage love story. The Hunger Games all in all is an amazing book and I would definitely recommend it.

City of Glass by Jessica Weckesser

City of Glass
By: Jessica Weckesser
The book, City of Glass, is a fantasy/ romance and is written by Cassandra Clare. This book is jam packed of action, and once you start reading it you can’t put it down. This book is about a world where there are normal human beings who are oblivious that there are werewolves, vampires, shadow hunters, warlocks and feiries walking amongst them. In this book, shadow hunters are the head and are in control, while vampires and werewolves are considered downworlders and not very liked by the shadow hunters. A shadow hunter named Valentine has turned evil and wants to open the portal to the demon world and let them loose so that he can be in control. This causes the downworlders and the shadow hunters to come together to fight Valentine before he opens it. At the same time Jace believes that he is Valentine’s son but then realizes that he isn’t… Sebastian is and he’s part demon because he was one of Valentine’s experiments. Then he has to fight against his brother that he didn’t even knew he had, and maybe even kill him. Who is Jace then? I really loved the mortal instrument series and I would recommend them to you. These books are so intense and they have really good vivid description. I could read them over and over again.

The Hunger Games by ?

The Hunger Games is a great book. It was written by Suzanne Collins. It has amazing characters and it was greatly written. I love this book and I could read it over and over. Katniss Everdeen is the main character in this book. The author did an amazing job at describing her and I could really feel her personality. Peeta Mellark was also a big part of this book. Katniss and Peeta were a team through this whole book. The Government was cruel and so harsh that it made this book so amazing. The plot in this book was great, I am now reading number the second book and I love it just as much. The author knows how to keep me sucked in and I can’t find myself stop reading at sometimes. This book has it all, it has everything you need to be entertained.

Yummy by Conrad Haggart

Yummy
By Conrad haggart
Yummy will earn both the reader’s livid rage and deep sympathy, even as the social structure that created him is cast, once again, as America’s undeniable shame. This is a graphic novel that pushes an unsightly but hard to ignore socio-political truth out into the open “A haunting, ripped-from-the-headlines account of youth gang violence in Chicago provides the backdrop for a crucial mediation on right and wrong. A much-needed look at the terrifying perils of life on the margins that will have all readers pondering the heady question of moral responsibility of being a teenager he was in a gang and he got shot because of he was in a gang and he was not listening Teens who enjoy stand -alone graphic novels will be drawn to the compelling story and art, and moved by the tragic unfolding of events. This novel would also be an excellent resource for a classroom discussion on gang violence."

Adam Canfield of the Slash by Graydin Moore

Adam Canfield of the Slash
Author: Michael Winerip
By: Graydin Moore

Adam Canfield is a middle scholar who is an over programmed kid who is involved in many clubs such as his school's newspaper. He is the star reporter of the newspaper. His best friend, Jennifer asks Adam to be the co-editor of the Slash (the schools newspaper). He definitely accepts the offer. One day they are asked by the school's principal, Mrs. Marris. She orders them to write a story about the nice women named Minnie Bloch who had recently died and made a donation to the school. Adam believed that the money is being used for her personal use such as fancy bathrooms in her office and not for the use of “school improvements”. While they try to figure out more on that, Adam enrages on their town by informing them that every ones basketball hoops would be coming down because of the town's zoning committee, which is not fair to the town.
“Adam Canfield of the slash” by Michael Winerip is an interesting book for people who aren’t that interested in reading such as me.

Violet Eyes by Justin Saucier

Violet Eyes Book Review
Author: Nicole Luiken
By Justin Saucier

Violet Eyes is so far a good book because I can’t say I have read the whole thing because I have not. This book is about a character named Angel who has violet eyes, and she is different from everyone else. She finds another person named Michael who also has violet eyes. Angel always has bad times with Mike and does not like Mike because he was being rude and he took angel while she was by the pool side, picked her up and threw her in the pool. Angel tries to fake her drowning which then causes Mike to fake a mouth to mouth resuscitation. Instead he kisses her but it just looks like he was saving her. Then when Angel tries to tell everyone Mike wasn’t saving her everyone didn’t know what really happened so they just blamed Angel even more for saying lies.

That was just a little bit of this good book. Anyone who likes reading but not long books should definitely read this book. It gets very interesting later on so don’t turn it down after reading only one chapter. Again, this book is so far a great read and I recommend reading it.

Runaway Devil by Gabbie

Runaway Devil.

Runaway Devil was a very suspenseful and chilling book. This book Runaway Devil was written by Sherri Zickefoose and Robert Remington. This book got to me because I could never think of harming my family like that in any way shape or form, let alone date a 23 year old man! That makes me sick! All her parents were trying to do was keep her safe and keep her out of trouble. I found this book to be a very intriguing book and a one you cannot put down. It starts off as a happy suburban family in the city of Medicine Hat then turns into a gruesome, horrific and heart wrenching story of 12 year old Jasmine Richardson whose forbidden love with 23 year Jeremy Steinke drove her to murder her family consisting of her parents Debra and Mark, and her 8 year old brother Jacob. This book was one of the most shocking and best books I’ve read in years and I read it over a million times. No matter how many times you read this book, it’s always going to get you.

Harry Potter: the Half Blood Prince by Jon Latimer

CTS 9 Book review
Harry Potter 6- The Half Blood Prince
Author: J.K. Rowling
By: Jon Latimer

The book I read and am doing my book review on is H.P 6 The half Blood Prince. This is one of my favorite books, along with the entire other Harry Potter series. They are a great series and I feel that everyone should read them, regardless of age. The series if you don’t know, is about a boy who discovers he’s is a wizard when he’s 11, and that his parents were killed by the darkest wizard of their time. He then goes on a 7 year journey with his friends Ron and Hermione at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This book takes place in their 6th year, and in this year, Harry finds an old potions book whose owner is unknown. Throughout the year, he gains helpful advice, useful tips, and new spells from the book, coming to rely on it. And meanwhile he and Dumbledore try and uncover the secrets of immortality and the horcruxes. This and many more things happen, but you’ll need to read the book if you want to know all of them. This book is great for any ages, old or little. It mixes reality and fantasy so well you’d actually think it all happened. If you haven’t read it yet I recommend you go out and pick it up from your library. Now.
Hey, Grade 9s!  Post your review here!

A Monster Calls -- Michelle Bien

12:07. Seven minutes past midnight. That was when the monster would come to Conor’s backyard. The monster was so big the house groaned when he leaned on it. But the monster was nothing compared to the nightmares Conor dealt with while he slept. And nothing compared to the terrible truth that was happening in Conor’s home, or the relentless bullying at school. But the monster wasn’t expecting Conor to not be frightened. He narrowed his eyes. You will be, it said. Before the end.

The author writes with an emotional truth that makes you feel upset, you hurt for Conor, and grieve with him. You try to figure out why it is so hard for Conor to sort out what is real, and what is not. Every chapter ends with a cliff hanger.

The book is illustrated with dark, spooky images. The illustrator used everything from beetles to breadboards to create interesting marks and textures.

I loved reading this book, and I hope you do, too.

Chopsticks: A Novel

Chopsticks: A Novel By Jessica Anthony and Rodrigo Corral

Described as a “dark picture book for mature teens”, Chopsticks is a novel told almost exclusively through photos and images.

The story is pieced together for the reader through letters, postcards, newspaper clippings, photos, and screenshots. Visually engaging, entertaining, and moving, I really enjoyed being an observer of Glory and Francisco’s romance in this unique scrapbook-like book.
