The Alchemist

 

 

I read The Alchemist in one night when I was 20. I was in Inuvik and had just finished canoeing the Mackenzie River in the NWT. The story is about a young shepherd who keeps having the same dream. The dream eventually leads the shepherd to leave his home and begin an incredible journey full of adventure. The book's message is simple -- 'If you want something the world will help you get it, but you must take the first step and go after what you want.'
